what teen’s can learn from kanye … 070808

it is reported that kanye, upon the advice of his inner circle, has signed up for anger management classes. his spokesperson has stated that kanye has distanced himself from a lot of friends because of his anger issues. in addition to that, sponsors who would like for him to be a spokesperson for their products, are reluctant because they are nervous about how he will interact with them.

kanye is just one of the many who are not able to manage anger appropriately. as talented as he is, he is lacking in this area. this could be his undoing.

everyone of us have had bouts with anger issues. some of us are able to manage it better than others. anger is simply one of the many emotions that we all have. its never wrong to get angry. the holy bible gives us permission to be angry but never to sin i.e. never to hurt, harm, inflict injury of any kind, upon others. (see ephesians 4:26) . anger needs to have an outlet. the issue is not the anger, but it is how the anger is expressed or in this case, managed.

people express their anger by becoming aggressive or passive, or by displacing or denying their emotions. (NOTE: this is taken out of the anger management curriculum that i have written and is in the process of rewriting to make available to organizations that would like to incorporate teaching anger management to those within their sphere of influence).

apparently kanye hasn’t mastered this art as yet. i would say based upon that which has been reported, he is using the aggressive method of expression. with his inability to control his anger, he will undoubtedly export this through his music unto his audience. he will find ways to justify his actions and will point to others as being responsible. this will be the message that is directly or indirectly passed unto his audience – blame others for your anger. what lesson do you think his audience will learn from him as it relates to anger?

here is a thought that i have promoted for years: “anyone who angers you so that you react in a negative manner, has conquered you” ONLY IF YOU REACT NEGATIVELY!

kanye is being conquered by someone or by others. could it be that in his song “jesus walks” he is searching to put an end to some of the hurts etc. that he feels on the inside? the anger? the pain? what do you think?

don’t get angry with me kanye!  likewise don’t get angry with me kanye fans this would only prove a point.

quick tips on managing anger: take 10 deep breaths while concentrating on your feelings, count slowly to 100, go to another area to cool off, talk to someone of importance in your life, listen to positive music, exercise. add prayer to these.

any other suggestions?
